Pennsylvania State Police are still searching for answers in the homicide of 23-year-old Karen Marie Hufnagel from 1977, Pennsylvania Crime Stoppers announced this week.

It happened at a mobile home on State Route 99 in Washington Township, Erie County.

A fire was reported by a neighbor at Hufnagel’s mobile home approximately one mile south of Edinboro on April 13, 1977, around 10:10 p.m.

Firefighters arrived and found Hufnagel unconscious but breathing in the front yard of her residence.

Investigators later learned Hufnagel had suffered a gunshot wound to her head, and she died less than an hour later at the hospital.

Hufnagle was a 1971 graduate of Norwin High School and attended Edinboro State College until 1973.

She also worked as a cashier at Ken’s Pharmacy in Cambridge Springs until her death. Hufnagle was previously did housekeeping at the Riverside Inn in Cambridge Springs and was a bartender at the Evergreen Tavern in Edinboro.

State Police are asking anyone with information to come forward.
