Union Workers Continue to Strike at Wabtec
On Saturday, union workers at Erie Wabtec continue to walk the picket line at plant entrances, as the strike over a contract moved into its third day.
More than 14 hundred employees in UE 506 and and and a handful in US 618 voted Thursday to reject the company's contract offer.
It called for a mix of wage increases and lump sum payments, but union leadership said it doesn't keep pace with inflation. They're also dissatisfied with changes in benefits and how grievances are handled.
Wabtec said their offer keeps industry leading wages and benefits, preserves work for erie and positions the plant for future.
The company said it remains willing to work with the union to finalize a new agreement, so far new talks are not scheduled.
This is the second strike over contract negotiations since Wabtec took over in 2019. Under General Electric, the last general strike over a contract was in 1969.
