Sugar Bay Wildfire in Allegheny National Forest Now Contained
The Sugar Bay Wildfire in Allegheny National Forest is now fully contained, according to the USDA Forest Service.
The fire is located on the eastern side of Allegheny Reservoir, just north of Sugar Bay and west of Polly’s Run.
Allegheny National Forest staff made progress Wednesday in putting out the fire. Glade Volunteer Fire Department and the US Army Corps of Engineers provided transportation to the fire by boat.
Fire activity is expected to be minimal, based on the weather forecast. Wildland firefighters will continue to monitor the area over the next few days, according to forest officials.
The public is warned to avoid the burned area because of fire-weakened trees.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
