Brian Durniok has been named president of UPMC Hamot, hospital officials announced Monday.

He will also oversee UPMC's northwestern Pennsylvania and New York markets which include UPMC Chautauqua in Jamestown, NY and UPMC Northwest in Venango County.

Durniok has served as interim president since July. He stepped in to fill the role of former president David Gibbons, who was promoted.

UPMC officials said the appointment comes after a national search.

Durniok played a role in helping to establish UPMC Northwest’s tele-medicine service line, improving rural access to specialized care and enhancing healthcare in southwestern New York at UPMC Chautauqua, according to UPMC.

Durniok first joined UPMC in 1995 as a director of human resources at UPMC Horizon in Mercer County. He served as vice president of human resources at UPMC Hamot, and later UPMC Northwest and UPMC Chautauqua, from 2013 to 2018. Durniok was appointed president of UPMC Northwest in 2017. In January 2019, he was also appointed president of UPMC Chautauqua.
