"Godfather" of Bills Mafia Named Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year
In November, Del Reid, known as the "godfather" of Bills Mafia, was named Fan of the Year by the Buffalo Bills.
Back in 2011 when Del Reid sent out a tweet mentioning "Bills Mafia," he never thought it would lead him to the life he is living now.
"It went viral and myself and some of the people I was joking with saw an opportunity to lift up fans a little bit and develop our own identity within the Bills fan base not creating the whole Bills fan base which is what it has become," Reid said.
Now, Reid is the founder of 26 Shirts, a hybrid store selling t-shirts both online and some at their location in Buffalo.
The shirts have catchphrases and designs on them that are popular with Bills fans.
Last November, Reid was named the Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year, which he said is, "still kind of weird and surreal."
Reid said being a Bills fan in a stadium surrounded by other members of Bills Mafia makes it feel like a family environment.
"We are all in this together, you are in the seat at the stadium, probably freezing this weekend, and the person next to you it does not matter their faith, background, skin color or whatever political leanings, at that time when we are in the stadium we are all in the same family cheering on that product on the field and we are all together in it," he said.
Even as the Buffalo Bills Fan of the Year, Reid said Steelers fan making the trip from Erie will be welcomed.
"You are not coming in as a Dolphins, Jets or Patriots fan so it should be a little bit more welcoming, still a playoff game, still a lot at stake, I am sure emotions are going to run high but we are called the City of Good Neighbors for a reason.
Reid also added that 26 Shirts has now raised close to $1.9 million dollars for local charities and families.
