Donor markers at the Erie County Veterans Memorial Park were found to be damaged.

Some were bent and others were completely snapped.

After seeing the damage, Vice president of the Park, Bill Welch, offered solutions on how to ensure that no more damage happens to the park.

"One would be to educate the people of the difference between right and wrong or at least care about the difference between right and wrong, the other is that we are going to be looking at installing security cameras around here so we can catch them in the act and then do the appropriate thing," Welch said.

Erie County Director of Veterans Affairs Joe Benacci is calling on the community to help make sure the park remains safe.

"We are just asking people who live around there to keep an eye out for us, if you see somebody in the park late at night, maybe call the police and hopefully we can deter this going forward," Benacci said.

Both men are are hopeful that the damage will be repaired to a park that is so meaningful to our area veterans

"I think there is an awe, honor and also a sadness for those who went before," Welch said.

"We are trying to make it a very solemn and educational space and we will get through it," Benacci said.
