Ukrainian Falcon Foundation Brings Relief Efforts to Northwestern PA
Two representatives from the Falcon Foundation in Ukraine have traveled to Northwestern Pennsylvania to raise awareness about the ongoing conflict in Ukraine.
The foundation, which provides crucial assistance to elderly orphans and children affected by the war, is hosting two benefit events this week with the support of local organizers.
The grassroots Falcon Foundation has established multiple facilities in Ukraine to support the most vulnerable populations. The first benefit will take place in Warren on Monday, October 28th at the Women's Club in downtown Warren, followed by another in Erie on Tuesday, October 29th at the UPMC Park Stadium Club.
“The organization put together housing, staffing, and a plan to take these orphaned elderly in and care for them,” said Alex Zawacki, one of the benefit organizers. “Together with other volunteers, they’ve built infrastructure that Ukraine didn’t have.”
Zawacki became involved with Ukrainian relief efforts after meeting Piper Van Ord, a Warren business owner who had been delivering supplies to a nonprofit in Poland. Inspired by her work, Zawacki offered to host Falcon Foundation representatives to help them share their mission and build further support.
“We would love to show the impact that has already been made thanks to people’s support,” said Masha Karpenko, co-founder of the Falcon Foundation. “Because of their help, we can keep fighting for our independence. It’s an important message we want to deliver to those who continue to support us.”
The benefit events are free to attend, with a cocktail hour starting at 6 p.m. at both locations. Speakers will include Dr. Oksana Myrenecko and Karpenko, who will share their experiences with the public.
“Their needs are great, and I’ve seen them—they are real,” Zawacki added. “Ms. Masha and Dr. Oksana, along with volunteers across the country, are the ones stepping in to meet those needs.”
"The war is still going on, everyday people are in need, everyday people are suffering. Please do not forget Ukraine," Karpenko urged.
