A 25 year year old man is in the Erie County jail on $100,000 cash bond. Erie Police say he shot his girlfriend in the face, inside a home along the City's eastside just before 8:00 p.m. Wednesday night.

The shooting took place near 22nd and Reed Streets.

Deputy Police Chief Rick Lorah says the 20 year old female was alert when transported to UPMC Hamot Wednesday night. She was listed in stable but critical condition.

Lorah told Erie News Now, it was a case of the gun being mishandled.

However, after two people were brought in for questioning last night, police charged Nicholas T. Chastang with two counts of aggravated assault, along with other charges.

He was arraigned on the charges, Thursday morning.
