2nd Annal Polar Plunge in Edinboro Lake
A cold day... but that did not’t stop local students from jumping into the lake in Edinboro for the 2nd Annual Unified Polar Plunge.
It started with just two 11th-grade students from General McLane, and this year, they were joined by students from Northwest and Maplewood. More than 200 students braved the 42-degree water of Edinboro Lake. The Cool Schools Polar Plunge successfully raised funds to benefit Special Olympics, supporting year-round programs for athletes across the Erie region. General McLane High School alone contributed over $7,000, with the combined efforts of the other schools exceeding $10,000 just today.
Ramey Plouse said, "Everyone is all together, nobody judges anyone. We are all just here to jump in the lake."
Regional Development Director Diane Sickles said, "It's a way of showing inclusion, and we have 200 brave souls jumping into Lake Edinboro and freezing for a reason."
Athletes and coordinators shared that, while it was a cold day, together they could overcome anything.
