The 12th Annual Holiday Haul is underway in Jamestown, New York, benefiting the St. Susan Center soup kitchen. It is the center's largest and most vital fundraiser.

Over the past 11 years, this event has raised $160,000 and collected 140,000 pounds of food, serving as a cornerstone of support for the soup kitchen’s year-round operations.

“This event means a lot to the St. Susan Center," said Dan Keefe, Lead Organizer for the Community Holiday Haul. "The donations we receive will help them for the entire first quarter of 2025.  So, there is a burden that we feel throughout the drive, but in the end, each year we've been relieved and feel grateful for all the support."

With homelessness and food insecurity rising in Jamestown, the need for donations is greater than ever. Volunteers are braving the cold to help collect items, motivated by the knowledge that every can, every dollar, and every hour of their time makes a difference.

“Every little bit helps, and it means a lot, just coming out to help people who may be less fortunate," shared Dru Freeborough, a volunteer at the drive.

"The response from people coming though has been great," added fellow volunteer Mike Little. "This time of year people tend to be more generous, and I know that what we can do now, helps for a longer period of time at the beginning of the year and later on too, when they are not getting those donations."

Organizers say the impact of this event extends far beyond the holiday season, ensuring that the St. Susan Center can continue to provide warm meals and hope to those in need throughout the year.

Donations can be dropped off at the Jamestown Cycle Shop located at 10 Harrison Street in Jamestown, NY where they are accepting non-perishable goods and monetary donations, December 12th through the 14th.
