2 Teens Arrested for Erie Drive-by Shooting that Killed One, Injured Another
Police have arrested two teens in Tuesday's City of Erie shooting which killed a 17 year old and injured another.
Martavion Thompson, 18, and Jahmeir Bibbs, 17, both face charges including homicide, conspiracy to commit murder, two counts of attempted homicide, six counts of aggravated assault and 10 counts of reckless endangerment.
The shooting was reported near W. 31st and Liberty St. around 4 p.m. Tuesday.
A 17-year-old male identified as Armoni Cantu was pronounced dead less than an hour later from a gunshot wound to the chest. The coroner ruled his death as a homicide.
A second 17 year old was shot in the mouth and is expected to survive.
Investigators called it a targeted, drive-by shooting. Deputy Chief Rick Lorah told Erie News Now one group in a vehicle opened fire at another group.
According to the criminal complaint, police say this is the result of an ongoing feud between two individuals at Erie High School.
Erie High School released the following statement in response to the incident:
“This incident is another reminder that gun violence impacts our community, students and families in devastating ways, and that it is our collective responsibility to do everything we can to stop it. Regardless of when, where or how an incident such as this happens, we want the best for our students, staff and our broader community, and are here to support our students and staff in every way we can. We continue to assist the Erie Police Department in its investigation.”
Police said the investigation is active and ongoing, and more charges and arrests are possible.
