As the old year came to a close, administrators in Erie's Public Schools made the move to their brand new home, just a couple blocks north on Sassafras Street.

It's very different from the offices they've had for nearly 25 years in the old Washington School building. Everything in this former AHN medical facility at 19th and Sassafras is redesigned just for the district.

Some 75 employees from the top administrators to those providing student services are in bright new office space There's a new meeting room where the Erie School Board will hold its regular public meetings.

Assistant superintendent Neal Brokman said the transition has been smooth.

"The feedback that I've received from everybody who works in this building, it's all been positive.  Just looking around the building and seeing the light - it just has a different feel than our old building did, it's kind of palpable to be honest with you," said Brokman.

Erie's Public Schools sold the former Washington School building to Hamot Health Foundation for its build initiative. They plan to develop it into 22 apartments with wrap around services for people who are chronically homeless.
